The Great School can be found in Glantri City in the Citadel Quarter near the Parliament and the House of Ministers. It is the largest school of magic in the Known World.
Teaching methods at the Great School center around the tutorial. Each student is assigned a tutor with whom they meet on at least a weekly basis. Tutors assign additional readings and work as benefits the individual student. This system seems to resemble that of Oxford University and Sarah Lawrence College.
Most of the students live in dormitories on campus. In AC 979 one such dormitory, Bloodthistle Hall, suffered a sudden, localized earthquake.

- Leila Moonshadow; Enchantment; cross-cultural magic; took over as tutor of Absalom and Fatima following the retirement of Mariana Terlagand
- Iphigenia Carp; Conjuration. Killed AC 981.
- Tenebras Illuminaurum; alchemy and potions
- Ethendril h’Caramore; assistant fencing master
- Roderick, the Steward of Bloodthistle Hall
- Richard, the Steward of Balingslyly Tower
