Gong

Gong farmer (also gongfermor, gongfermour, gong-fayer, gong-fower or gong scourer) was a term that entered use in Tudor England to describe someone who dug out and removed human excrement fromprivies and cesspits; the word "gong" was used for both a privy and its contents. Gong farmers were only allowed to work at night, hence they were sometimes known as nightmen. The waste they collected, known as night soil, had to be taken outside the city or town boundary or to official dumps for disposal.
As more modern sewage disposal systems such as pail closets andwater closets became increasingly widespread in 19th-century England, fewer and fewer cesspits needed to be dug out. The job of emptying cesspits today is usually carried out mechanically using suction, byspecialised tankers.

GryphCon (Guelph) February 26-28th

GryphCon (Guelph) February 26-28th

Gryphcon is a Gaming convention held at the University of Guelph and hosted by the University of Guelph Games Club. Gryphcon is what one may call venerable - it has been around for more than 25 years in various incarnations. Gryphcon has been holding steady as a small to medium sized con since inception. There are familiar faces and a great sense of camaraderie throughout the Con - which makes Gryphcon a great con to experience!
We cover a lot of ground for being a "small" con and Gryphcon is flexible concerning the gaming systems present each year as it largely depends on what our Game Masters (GMs) run. However, we generally have at least one game or event run from each of the following categories:
Board GamesTable Top Role-Playing games (RPGs)Live Action Role-Playing games (LARPs)Collectable Card Games (CCGs)Miniature Games

Please note: This is not a TAG event, though if you do plan on attending, please RSVP as other community members may want to connect with you, share a ride, share accommodation, enjoy a meal together, and possibly just want to meet-up with you.

"The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. I admire its purity. A survivor, unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality."
— Ash from Alien, describing the Xenomorph
