This was created by Children Mages in an effort to control chaos, but other spellcasters soon learned that they could use this as well. When the casting begins the caster goes into a light trance where they envision what they want to happen, "tether" the vision to themself, then leave the trance with the possibility still "tethered" to them. Some imagined result or some know possiblity can be imagined for a future spell, cast by any means. and the caster can hten affect the roll by up to 1% per level to the chance of of an outcome they want to happen. Those still young adults or less affect the outcome by 2% a level. . A serious and unbreakable limit to this is that a caster may only be allowed to have one possibility "tethered" at a time.
The spell ends with the outcome desired happens - by luck or design.
Example: The caster imagines that the next fireball spell he casts will work. The caster is 3rd level, so there is a 10% of failure, but with the tether he has a 6% higher chance of it working. Even if it fails, the misfire chance is still effected by the 6%, until a more or less successful fireball is cast.
The caster would instead of asked for a controlled misfire, so the chances of failure would actually have been increased to 16% but then the chances of a misfire rather than out right failure would also increase.and until the misfire occurs, the spell will remain active.
The spell is typically cast to avoid child misfires for specific spells like "avoid horrible misfires if they should happen to happen" which means the spell will only effect spells that actually have misfired, but will likely avoid any "horrible" misfire. Confersly a specific spell could be imagines like sleep, and the spell help make sleep work properly. If sleep works improperly the spell remains, if sleep works, the spell is consumed.
The spell will also end for many other reasons. The caster being badly damaged, an extended period of time, dispel magic and the like. However, merely having the spell memorized will stop many fading of the tether.
